Thessaloniki at the World Gastronomy Conference in Songland, Thailand (29–31 August 2025)

The Municipality of Thessaloniki participated, as an official member of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network of Gastronomy, in the World Gastronomy Conference Songland 2025, which took place from August 29 to 31, 2025, in Thailand.
Thessaloniki, renowned for its centuries-old gastronomic tradition and its dynamic contemporary cuisine, had the opportunity to present to an international audience the richness and diversity of its local gastronomy, which combines multicultural influences with creative modern approaches.
The Deputy Mayor of Culture, Tourism Development and Intermunicipal Cooperation, Vasilis Gakis, stated: “Through its participation in UNESCO’s global network, Thessaloniki highlights its unique gastronomic footprint and strengthens its international collaborations. Our presence at Songland 2025 is yet another proof that our city can stand proudly on the world stage, bringing together tradition, innovation, and creativity, while at the same time enhancing the city’s tourism promotion.”
As part of the conference, Thessaloniki’s delegation—composed of the Head of the Tourism Department, Vasilis Vasileiadis, and the city’s ambassador chef, Mr. Apostolos Altanis—showcased:
  • The city’s initiatives in the field of sustainable and creative gastronomy.
  • The promotion of local production and traditional products.
  • The role of gastronomy as a driver of tourism and cultural development.
  • The connection of gastronomy with education, innovation, and social cohesion.
Participation in the World Gastronomy Conference Songland 2025 was an important opportunity for Thessaloniki to project itself outward and strengthen its international identity as a city of taste, culture, and creativity.
