“Married Sardines”

“A dish full of Ω3 fats. The most excellent meze in the ouzo places of our town. Walking around the small roads, in Kapani, in Athonos Square, Ladadika, in the taverns in Nea Krini you can enjoy grilled sardines and of course you cannot resist to such a tasty temptation, which is perfectly accompanied by a chilled ouzo or tsipouro.”


  • 1 kg big sardines
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 onions in half rounds
  • 1 bunch parsley chopped
  • 3-4 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 ripe tomatoes diced
  • some oregano
  • 1 lemon (juice)
  • salt, black pepper freshly grated


Clean the sardines, cut their heads and remove their bones. Wash them and strain them. Put salt, pepper and sprinkle them with olive oil. Open them and fill them with some onion, parsley, some tomato and sprinkle them with oregano. Close them and line them on a non stick baking tray or on the grill. Grill them from both sides. Serve them warm and sprinkle with lemon juice.
